Our story
Silver Companion was founded by a family carer who understood — from personal experience — how much a warm, reliable companion can change someone's day. We exist to bring that feeling to as many people as possible.
Our mission
Loneliness among older adults is one of the most significant — and most overlooked — health challenges of our time. Research shows it can be as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Silver Companion exists to change that. We carefully match older adults with warm, vetted companions who share their interests and genuinely enjoy spending time together. Not carers. Not volunteers. Friends.
Every visit should feel like time spent with a genuine friend — not a service transaction. We choose companions who truly care.
Every companion is DBS-checked, reference-verified, and trained in safeguarding before their first visit. Your peace of mind matters.
We believe older adults deserve to be treated as the full, interesting people they are — with their own stories, opinions, and preferences.
It doesn't take grand gestures. A good laugh, a shared cup of tea, a walk in the park — these small moments make a real difference.
The people behind Silver Companion
A small, dedicated team who care deeply about what we do — and why we do it.
Founder & Director
Helen founded Silver Companion after caring for her own mother and seeing first-hand how much a friendly face could mean. She has spent 15 years working in social care and is passionate about changing how we support older adults.
Head of Companions
James leads our companion recruitment and training programme. He ensures every person who joins our team shares our values — and that every match between companion and client feels right from the very first visit.
Care Coordinator
Priya is the first voice many families hear when they call us. She handles bookings, coordinates matches, and makes sure every client feels supported — before, during, and after their visits.
Your safety is our priority
We know that inviting someone into your home — or the home of a loved one — is a significant act of trust. Here is exactly what we do to earn it.
Every companion undergoes an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before joining our team. We re-check every two years.
We speak directly with two personal references for every companion — not just collect names on a form.
All companions complete a safeguarding adults training course and are briefed on our lone-working and incident reporting procedures.
Silver Companion carries full public liability insurance. Every visit is covered, giving you complete peace of mind.
We always arrange a relaxed, no-obligation introduction before the first paid visit. You should feel comfortable before committing to anything.
We check in with both clients and companions regularly. If anything ever feels off, we act quickly — no questions asked.
Whether you're booking for yourself or a loved one, we're here to help every step of the way. No pressure — just a friendly conversation.
